How to Keep Garden Grass Green: Lawn Care Tips

Maintaining a lawn can be tricky, and this is the reason for loads of people opting for artificial turf. But there is no substitute for natural grass. Maintaining garden grass is easy with the tips and tricks mentioned in this article and the video.

Did you know? The grass clippings after mowing your lawn are the best fertilizer for your garden.

In this article, you will learn about the following:

  1. Watering the Lawn Deeply
  2. Letting the Lawn Grow
  3. Mowing and Trimming
  4. Offering your Lawn a cup of tea
  5. Enjoying your Lawn more often

Step 1: Watering the Lawn Deeply

It is essential to water your lawn deeply and less frequently after three days of mowing the grass. It is important to water the garden lawn early in the morning or late in the evening for better results. If you water during the day in the full sun’s presence, the amount of water that will reach the roots may be too less because it will keep evaporating. But if you are growing grass between the tiles, you will have to water more frequently.

Step 2: Letting the Lawn Grow

It is important to let the lawn grow up to 3 1/2 inches in length. Never remove more than the top one-third of the grass height. During winters, make sure your grass is at least 2 1/2 inches in height after mowing. If your grass is cut too short, it becomes too susceptible to drought and heat damage. It can hamper its growth.

Step 3: Mowing and Trimming

Mow the lawn and also trim the edges. I use a very efficient Black and Decker Lawn Edge Trimmer (Lawn Edge Strimmer). The Lawn Mower I have been using is Black and Decker Electric Lawn Mower.

Step 4: Offering your Lawn a cup of tea

The grass clippings after mowing the lawn are a vibrant source of nitrogen and phosphorus. Fill half the bucket with grass clippings and half the bucket with water. After this, you have to let the mixture rest for three days. The mixture can then be sieved and then sprinkled over the bald or brown patches of the grass. It can also be sprayed on other plants in your garden.

Step 5: Enjoy Your Lawn more often

Do not hesitate to let your child walk and play on the lawn, host outdoor dinners, and barbecues in your garden. You will clean up and maintain in a much better manner if you are hosting someone.

Here’s a Tip: Add grass clippings around your trees before peak winter or peak summer to fertilise and protect from harsh temperatures.
